Paper Award and Demo at ACM UIST 23

The Morphing Matter Lab has been recognized with a Best Paper Honorable Mention Award at the ACM Symposium on User Interface Software and Technology (UIST) 2023 for our innovative work.

This research, encapsulated in the paper titled "Sustainflatable: Harvesting, Storing, and Utilizing Ambient Energy for Pneumatic Morphing Interfaces," showcases a library of mechanical systems interacting with Nature. Spearheaded by Postdoc Qiuyu Lu, the team has created a technology that ingeniously utilizes the energy from environmental sources such as the sun, rain, and wind to maintain a self-sustaining interactive system. This approach is notable for its electronic-free and sustainable methodology, which involves application examples of optimal timing for seeding, strategic watering, and providing plant protection when necessary.

Kudos to Qiuyu Lu, Tianyu Yu, Semina Yi, Yuran Ding, Haipeng Mi, and Lining Yao for their contribution to sustainable HCI technology.
