About

Michael Vinciguerra is a Ph.D. studying Mechanical Engineering at CMU. He is being advised by Lining Yao in HCI and Carmel Majidi in the Mechanical Engineering department. His work focuses on the exploration of new materials for use in 3D and 4D printing applications. In his current pursuits, he works with liquid metal (LM) embedded elastomers (LMEE) that can be 3D printed to form stretchy, yet highly conductive, parts. 3D and 4D printing of these materials opens up new possibilities in designing electromagnetic surfaces such as antennas and soft robotics.

Michael received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering at Rutgers University in New Jersey, where he also double majored in Computer Science; he hopes to use his knowledge of both fields to better integrate concepts from these two disciplines in his work. His first foray into research began here with the support of Dr. Aaron Mazzeo in the Mechanical Engineering department.

Outside of the lab, Michael enjoys starting his day off with a run and loves to play video and board games with friends.
